Sackett Street Townhouse

A Fully Customized 4-Story Renovation in Just 30 Weeks

When Starling Architecture and designer Emily Lindberg came to MADERA to supply the interior finished wood surfaces for their Carroll Gardens townhouse project, we were more than ready for the task. We knew that this 4-story Brooklyn townhouse project would be something very special. We leveraged the versatility of Seamless Wood Design to bring this ambitious and elegant townhouse project to life: with no limitations.

What does Seamless Wood Design look like in action?

Simply put: Seamless Wood Design is perfectly integrated custom woodwork. In the instance of the Sackett Street townhouse, this came to include millwork, furniture, wide plank flooring, cabinetry, grills and vents, architectural panels for both ceiling and walls, stair treads, interior doors, and kitchen fronts, - even a bed frame and a built-in mudroom sideboard were designed and fabricated to match.

At MADERA, our custom woodwork can include everything but the kitchen sink (but, we think that probably could be figured out, too). Coordinating wood finishes throughout a construction project can be a challenge. Designers and architects might envision one thing, but are forced to make adjustments based on limitations of materials, even when dealing with custom woodwork. We are long-time fans of bringing nature’s beauty to interiors in a timeless and high-quality way. Seamless Wood Design is our love-letter to the natural beauty that comes from letting wood lead the way.

Was This Project a Success?

We’re pretty wild about the beauty that wood awards any interior space - and in Sackett Street’s renovation, it definitely shows. A perfect case study of our Stockholm Collection’s classic matte Måne finish captured by photographer George Del Barrio of Vanderbilt Republic, the Sackett Street townhouse project embodies the timeless and effortless essence of MADERA.

We love how the stair treads and architectural panels keep the light bouncing and the fresh air dancing - plus, we think those custom cabinets are pretty delightful atop the wide-plank floors. We believe this high level of detail and excellence to be the industry standard for high-end renovations and new construction projects for both residential and commercial custom woodwork projects.

Custom Woodwork - How Did We Do It?

First, we worked with the architect and designer to consider the wants and needs of the family of five who resides at Sackett Street. With every renovation we embrace form and function, and our team is capable of problem solving at a rapid pace to bring every idea from paper to reality.

Seamless wood starts at the source. The oak in this project was all sourced and processed in Bavaria, Germany. Single-source wood is vital as it ensures color, grain and tannin levels are the same throughout. For Sackett Street, the lamellas used for wide plank flooring were also processed for doors, architectural panels, stair parts, and millwork. Then, the lamellas for doors and architectural panels were sent to Belgium for lay-up, and finally onto our talented finishers who brought it all together. All of this in just 30 weeks, which was the tight schedule we were afforded.

For a custom woodwork renovation as complex as this one, it is imperative that our project managers keep everything and everyone on schedule. We devote ourselves to deliver each piece of the project with the same standard of excellence and within the same timeframe.
